Join

To join the Masterclass Mathematical Physics you need to be enrolled first at the University of Vienna in the Master’s program of the Faculty of Mathematics or the Faculty of Physics.

Then, if you wish to join the Masterclass, send an email to the coordinator of your faculty:

 Criteria

To successfully complete the Master Class you need to:

  • Pass courses in the MCMP of a total minimal sum of 20 ECTS at the Faculty of Mathematics and 20 ECTS at the Faculty of Physics.
  • Write a Master thesis supervised by one of the Members (or co-supervised).

A confirmation that the candidate has achieved these informal criteria is provided by the Collective Certificate (available on uspace) and an informal confirmation by the thesis supervisor. Together they will result in a completion of the MCMP.

 Formal issues

The following remark is relevant for students at the Faculty of Physics, who wish to accredit mathematics courses for their Physics Master.  

  • Mathematics courses worth 5 or 10 ECTS can be accredited in the module M-VAF. Mathematics courses worth 6 ECTS, for instance, need to be evaluated individually. For this purpose, please contact the present Director of Studies Physics.
  • In the modul M-ERG most mathematics courses can be accredited subject to approval by the DoS Physics.

The following remark is relevant for students at the Faculty of Mathematics, who wish to accredit physics courses for their Mathematics Master.

  • Physics courses that are listed on the MCMP website are generously accredited in the mathematics curriculum, either as electives in the appropriate specializations or as further electives.
